Anyway, it doesn't really matter. There's always exceptions to everything. I could never go to school in the North (or live there, actually), and I know a LOT of Southerners who are the same way.
Co-sign, co-sign, co-sign. Emory, anyone?

And, for the record, you will find Clemson, Auburn, Ole Miss, 'Bama, LSU, UGA, (insert Southern school here) students who are fifth and sixth generations. These old South families send their dollars and their children to the same schools they've all been attending forever.

A high school classmate (who fits the description perfectly - money but not grades) went to the U. of Vermont. But she is not what I would call Southern.

I'd rather go to a Southern school any day o' the week, and it's not because I couldn't get into any others... I applied to thirteen colleges and all of them were below the Mason-Dixon line. It's a preference.

(And please keep in mind, in reference to GWB and Texas preppy, that Texans themselves define their own category - you can't really always lump them in with Southerners. They are a group all their own in many ways....)

To address the real question:

Preppy around here is a Polo shirt, state flag belt, khakis, Rainbow flip-flops or boat shoes. Add a faded baseball hat for casual days and a pair of Crokies for your sunglasses and you're all set. There will be no flipping up of the shirt collars....
