Yes, even though this is their "official" nickname I think it is odd too...the Crows were always referred to as Alpha Chi Rho in the newspaper, sometimes with "Crows" after it, but they would have certainly never said something like "Two sophomore Crows received an award." It would be like referrring to President Kennedy as "Jack" in a news article - just not professional.
