But seriously, I think Meredith let passion overrule her head and she was a *FOOL* to send Matthew away. I think the Ian thing will fizzle and die -- passion usually does fizzle.

I was very impressed with Matthew's graciousness in the face of rejection. His Mamma did a good job in raising him.
Matthew should be a Bachelor - he would have an even bigger fan base than Bob, given that he is actually physically attractive (meow).

 | LOL

I already emailed ABC and told them to make Matthew the next Bachelor, after Jesse Palmer since I am assuming that one is already in the works since it will air in April.

Seriously, why is everyone hating on Meredith? There are two kinds of women in the world, Matthew women and Ian women -- if you're one you probably don't understand the other -- and it sounds like most women on GC are Matthew women. Here's my theory:
From the sound of it, there are more Matthew women -- women are crazy for him, everywhere. Matthew is the kind of guy who says everything you want to hear. He impresses your parents and your friends by talking about how much he cares about you and he wants to get married. He's stable. He's safe. He's sweet. You could marry him tomorrow and he would stay with you for the rest of your life, no question about it. Matthew women are traditional. They like that safety and stability, often finding that the most important aspect of a relationship -- the commitment, the knowledge that someone will always be there. They're impressed by the fact that their family and friends are blown away by the perfect things he says. When they're with him, they feel safe and secure.

Ian, on the other hand, can't really be explained. There's just something there, and you don't always know what it is. It's passion, or excitement, or something. A woman feels butterflies when she's with someone like Ian. He doesn't make promises he can't keep, and doesn't always impress others because he can be quiet and he doesn't want to say things unless he really means them. Sometimes he may come of as aloof, but he's sexy and a woman knows that she will never be bored with him. A relationship with him may end in marriage -- it may last a lifetime -- but it may not. You never know. An Ian woman has a lot of self confidence, and doesn't always do what is expected of her. She loves adventure and excitement and trusts the feelings that she has even if others don't always understand.

ETA: I would take Ian over Matthew any day. I hope they're very happy together.

That being said, while Ian is whirlwind and passionate, I just didn't really see the addition of the deep heartfelt friendship there that I thought that I saw in her interactions with Matthew. I just think that Ian is the blowtorch that will burn out quite quickly, whereas Matthew is the slowburning log that will last for a long, long time. (and I guess for my own priorities, I would opt for longevity over an explosive burst).

But then, WTH do I know? I'm single and all I had to go on was the way in which FOX chose to edit the series for public viewing.

Question to Matthew Women: Were you a Charlie Woman last year or did you favour Ryan? What about the Ian gals?

I was a Charlie fan, actually. I found Ryan to be a bit bland. I had to look away everytime he trotted out his lame-o poetry. oy
And back to the topic of Ian, while I am actually more attracted to Ian physically, it seems to me that Matthew was better suited to Meredith, given what she claimed, at the beginning of the show, to be seeking. (not that Matthew was a slouch in the looks department, either.) I guess my "head" would choose Matthew and my "heart/loins" would choose Ian.

I liked Ian and Ryan. I found Ryan to be much better looking than Charlie, and I don't know -- more real. Charlie seemed fake to me.

One thing to keep in mind, we are always at the mercy of the producers in these shows. We were shown a very heavily edited version of what really happened. Supposedly, the "amazing connection" between Ian and Meredith was so strong, the Producers had to do something drastic to make it look interesting, ie make Ian look like an uncommunicative prick. If you look at the things they couldn't hide--the body language, the eye contact, the silent communication, you can clearly tell that Ian and Meredith are very much on the same wavelength. Even Meredith's parents admitted that Ian was very poorly edited and IRL he is much more open and warm. "The last 5 minutes of the show is what he's really like." (quoted from someone on another board who heard the interview)
Honestly, I think Meredith would have been very bored very quickly with Matthew. Yeah, he was sweet, he was nice, he said all the right things, but I don't think Meredith is the type of girl who wants that every day. Sure, the instant passion that Ian and Meredith have might cool after a while, but the comforting, everlasting love that it's often replaced with is much more satisfactory, IMO. Shit, my husband and I are barely married 6 months and we're nowhere near as passionate as we were when we first got married. That doesn't mean our marriage is doomed, it just means we've moved to a different stage of our relationship.

I was on the Ian love train since day 1. I'm happy they're together and I really hope they make it!

 | I am a Matthew and a Ryan woman....loved them both (I guess that makes me traditional, which I'll take any day!)

Valkyrie, the way you summarized both guys was bery well-spoken and I couldn't agree more. I think if someone like one *type* of guy, they're not going to like the other one (as Meredith kept saying last night, these two guys are nothing alike!)

I loved that it was charlie and ryan because i really liked them both. Ryan seems to be very sweet and loves trista very much.
Charlie on the other hand i liked a lot because he just to me he is just plain HOT!!!!!!! and just sooo plain cute
Now on to Ian and Matthew. I love Matthew because of his down home charm and sooooo ciue and boyish looking and after his sad looking face last night on after the rose i wanted to hug him.

Ian well he has this thing about him that i liked i mean he is cute and all but to me that is all i felt from him

Valkyrie's explainatin of both are pretty accurate. I perfer stable committed consistent males myself. i love the fact they are grounded and are not soooo highly unprectable and can be counted upon. I think you can get butterflies from both. I think you can get the same excitement from both as well. Because one is aloof and qiuet really doesn't say much were all reserved in our onw way. Either way i liked both ,,,,, I Would of hated to be in merideths shoes to make that decision.

I think that was the best "After the final rose" episode yet! I am really glad that Matthew confronted Meredith and basically asked her why she said what she said and ended up picking Ian. I know the show is over and she won't change her mind, but he needed to know why to probably get some closure. What she said was pretty strong, and you probably are better off not saying that unless you were going to pick him!
I think she felt very uncomfortable and emotional because it seemed like she was about to cry on more than one occassion. I do not think Meredith is a bad person, and is really sorry about hurting Matthew- but I am also glad she was faced with that question- although I do not think she gave him a clear anwser.

Okay well maybe Jesse Palmer is attractive, I do not know what picture I was looking at earlier! He does seem to have big ears though, oh well none of us are perfect either! |

I missed After the Last Rose show yesterday! I wasn't even going to watch this Bachelorette because I don't really care for Meredith, but of course I got sucked back in. I was rooting for Ian ever since they had that date in China Town, and while I was happy she chose him, I felt so bad for Matthew- my immediate reaction after hearing him tell her he just wanted her to be happy and all that good stuff, I thought that he's too good for her anyway. And I was a Ian and Ryan fan.
