You are being selfish in that you continue pushing in an emotional way.
As 33girl said its a simple thing. He can bring it up to the people and if theya re cool with it he can go, and if not he can't.
Unless you would prefer that this trip supercede the job opportunity?
If thats true the issue changes, other than that its just a matter of whetehr he gets permission.
