About 10 of my sisters came to my mom's viewing and stayed for the whole thing. That's two hours, dinner break, two more hours. I am an only child, so it was basically my dad and I hosting or whatever you would call it. After hearing the zillionth person say "she's in a much better place" it was a nice respite to go sit with them for a few minutes and have them make what I'm sure would be considered inappropriate comments for a funeral home.
