I see the argument of "It was so long ago and shouldn't matter," but to me, they are applying for one of the most powerful jobs in the world, not for some job at the 7-11. So I think credentials and credibility should be observed more closely.
Just like when you apply at a job and the question asks were you convicted of any crimes? Of course, it says it won't keep you from getting the job, but we all know it doesn't put you at the top of the list for the job either.
