I certainly agree that if you are unhappy with your organization that you can leave at any time, especially before you become an active member. However, sometimes it is not until you become a member that you find out what that organization is about, what it represents, etc. I for one was thrown for a loop upon learning the meaning of my organization and what we are (suppose) to be about. I also learned things about some of the other organizations (through the grapevine) and was surprised. Of course I knew there would be secrets, rituals, etc. but I had no idea of where they would all stem from. Although I am happy to be a part of my organization, I was a little disappointed.
