My high school and middle school didn't allow fraternities or sororities. I got in trouble in middle school for being in a sorority. We had ribbon pins, and little sisters, etc. I didn't realize it was a big deal, until I was called to the principles office.
We had them in high school too. But they were a little bit more secretive than the middle schoolers.
I noticed a section in the school handbook when I enrolled my daughter this year that prohibits any unauthorized student organizations. This included secret societies such as fraternities, sororities, gangs...
They compare fraternities to gangs?? Life in the big city...
