Dad's side of the family is Scottish and French. Mom's side is mostly French (Normandie-Bretagne) with Danish roots way back and a bit of East Prussian. Dad's family left Scotland to settle in France for several generations where they did rather well but were forced to leave by the revolution of 1789. They came to Boston and branched out to Philadelphia, New York, and St. Louis. Mom's family is interesting in that they served in the American Revolution with the French Army, returned to France then had to leave due to the French Revolution, came to Philadelphia, went to New Orleans, went back to France after the 1861-65 unpleasantness, and eventually returned to New Orleans. My St Louis Grandfather met and married my New Orleans Grandmother during WWII. Dad married another New Orleanian (Mom) after he returned from Viet Nam. I think we have started a tradition of marrying Southern Belles from New Orleans so I have to watch my step whenever I get down there to visit my cousins. This tradition might be broken soon as my sister has an English victim, er, I mean boyfriend, and my brother seems to be getting serious about an English girl he met in school and dated all through college.
