what happened to plain old verbal exchange...genuinely wanting to understand a child...being a guide...not a forcer...encouraging their freedom but making it clear there are certain things that won't be tolerated...and those things have very real consequences...i don't think that corporal punishment is the solution either...there are much more creative ways to discipline children...i don't like people hitting me as an adult...so why treat children any differently...??? it creates a situation of fear, and intimidation...not admiration, respect, love, and honor...but again, you can't just pop up at 12 and be trying to "talk" to your child about anything...they won't be hearing you...
