Not to discredit your friend or her parents, but what were they thinking? Anything that sounds THAT good with money has got to be a scam or some type of gimmick. Invest $1000 into a company and they mail you checks for the same amount weekly???
How would any company benefit from such a practice? I'm glad you didn't sell your diamond and invest the money.
Lesson learned: If something sounds too good to be true, especially when it comes to money, talk to a lawyer just to make sure it's legit. Or, stick to lottery tickets and pray you picked the lucky number!
