Like AlphaSigOU said, I think that really depends from chapter to chapter.
My boyfriends chapter of Lambda Chi for example, would always invite members of the greek system (small campus - 2 local sororities & 1 other national fraternity) for their associate's ceremony. They would also invite advisors, parents, and girlfriends of the men becoming associates.
