1. I chose my school because at the time I heard it had a good pre-engineering program in conjunction with Georgetown.
2. I chose Alcorn because....
a. I got a scholarship.
b. The other schools didn't "recruit" me ...in other words I sent in my ap got accepted (with a scholarship) but that was it no phone calls, etc.
c. It was hype at the time.
d. I loved the comradery when I visited there.
e. It has a very big and beautiful scenic campus...one of the prettiest I have ever seen. All the trees had the sorority/fraternities colors and names painted on them (guess who had the biggest tree
) and the sidewalks were designed in that particular orgs colors, logos, pics, cartoon characters etc. Just beautiful artwork!
f. Very good programs, small classroom sizes (important for learning), and help when needed (sometimes lol)
3. I'll start with the bad..
BAD...
1. Although it was mostly black, it needed more nationalities then. Now we're seeing a rise in other races.
Note: Non-blacks please apply, we don't bite.lol We'd love to have you. HBCU-means founded by blacks for blacks at a time when blacks couldn't go to school anywhere else. Now, and even then, there is a open door policy for all people. Education is NOT a color but a way of life!***stepping off my soap box***
2. FINANCIAL AID!!!!
They are just too dayum slow!!! ** thinking "we ain't got no mo' green beans"
GOOD...
1. Lasting friendships
2. Good times
3. Precious Memories
4. Knowing that when you see another alum make it you can stick your chest out with pride
5. the games, the band, the MEN!!!!
6. Other intelligent black folx with the same goals you have
7. Network(ing)
8. Job placement with companies who hire minorities
9. Leadership training
10. Approachableness of staff, faculty, etc.
11. the food!
12. the greek system
I could go on... better stop now!
RESEARCH! RESEARCH! RESEARCH! At least take the Black College Campus Tour before you make any judgements based on what you "heard". There are some very good colleges out there black or white. Know that you are helping to preserve history....to me it is not about where you go but what you do when you leave! (they teach you that @ ASU)
