Our scholarship chair has a folder in the library at the circulation desk for sisters to log the hours that they are in the library. And for those sisters who prefer to study somewhere else, there is another type of sheet where they log the date, time, place, and subject that they studied. In addition to this, the hours required by each sister vary depending on their GPA...you are rewarded for keeping your grades up by not having as many "required" study hours for the sorority.
We work pretty much the same way with the hours depending on your GPA. We are a commuter campus, but no one really lives far away, so our hours are done in the library. Since we've started study hours, the group GPA has risen quite a bit. We are proof that study hours work. If you want to do them in, say, the computer lab because you need to type a paper, you tell whoever's in charge or get someone to go with you to make sure you're doing your work. Unlike most groups on our campus, we have study hours just about every hour of the day, and even on saturday mornings if need be. We have a sheet where sisters sign up to take an hour (or 2,3,4 whatever they want) block and they are the 'moderator' of sorts for that time for the semester. The other sisters can come and go as they please, since they know there will be someone in the library at another time moderating. It's quite convenient for us. But, if you don't do the required number of hours for your GPA, those extra hours get tacked onto the next week.
