i think our nationals forces us to have a house mom....... all the sororities & fraternities at my school have one. i've never heard of a "house dad," especially not in a sorority house!
having one really isn't a big deal. her job isn't to force her morals onto us or anything, but just to see that everything runs ok so the girls have less to worry about. it's not as if it's her right to give us a curfew or something, or approve/disapprove of who we date. plus, we got to choose her ourselves by interviewing several candidates for the job.
