As a Big East (UConn) fan, I HATE this idea. Having Miami leave the Big East would leave the conference without a BCS bid, which would almost certainly be taken away if this should happen. With UConn just moving up to D1, that would be awful.
Also, it hurts basketball - while Villanova, St. John's, Notre Dame and Georgetown would still be in-conference (along with UConn), losing Syracuse and Miami would hurt. There has been talk of re-organizing the Big East and asking a couple of more teams to join, should Miami, BC and Syracuse stay.
I'm hoping the exodus does not occur.
