Girly questions--- guys may want to ignore this one....
The PMS thread inspired this....
But does anyone know someone who has had Endometrial Ablation performed? If so, what are their results/thoughts?
I will be having this surgery done in 6-8 weeks. For anyone who doesn't know (i didn't before my dr suggested it)---Ablation is an alternative to a hystarectomy (sp?). I have had horrible periods since I was a teenager. My dr put me on the pill at 16 to get it under control. I got married, had two kids, got my tubes tied, and realized the pill caused my migraines.
Ablation basically destoys the lining of the uterus---not allowing the endometrial lining to thicken every month, thus there is nothing to shed.
My doctor/surgeon has his own "invented" method--- I will get a shot of Lupron this week-- it will induce menopause, 6-8 weeks after the injection the lining will be thin enough to ablate. The surgeon will use a roller ball and a laser and burn off the enitre uterine lining. Outpatient surgery, supposedly very simple.
According to the surgeon, his record is 95% of his patients NEVER have another period!!! He said if I did, we could opt later to just remove that usless organ (ok- those are my words, not his).
So does anyone know anyone who has had this done?
thanks!

Is there a way to verify his success rate?
And how many patients has he done? As in 2? One being a relative?
If you choose this option, I hope that everything goes as well as You want.

Don't worry! I had it done about 2 months ago. It's not bad. You will have sort of a heavy feeling for a couple days and some soreness but after that you'll be a-ok. I went back to school after 4 days, and that's even considering I had the nausea from hell (as with any anesthesia). So good luck. I didn't take a lot of pain meds or anything. PM me if you have any other questions.

It induces Menopause?!?!?! I dunno sweetie but you sound too young to be going through that crap....but I mean if it helps ease the pain then by all means go ahead. I know what you're talking about...I have often had terrible cramps to the point I do pass out from pain. I've been on and off the pill several times. I dunno though, I'd rather have the pain than menopause!

Wow I feel for ya. That sounds absolutely horrific. And well if you only have menopause for 4 days instead of 10 yrs and then the period is gone, that sounds quite wonderful honestly. I hope everything works out well

I'm so sorry you have to go through this AlphaGam Alum. If this is your last resort to live comfortably and be healthy then I say its a good choice. Will you have to take Hormone replacement pills?

Correct. I don't think she was interested in anymore because she already had a tubal ligation.

A good friend of mine had this done as a means to stop endometriosis.
Unfortunately for her, it didn't work, and she ended up having a full blown hysterectomy instead.
She's just fine now.
My prayers will be for you that things work out for the best!

You are correct--I am done with having kids-- 2 little boys and a husband are plenty
You are correct James-- no more kids-- complete sterilization, as it destroys the uterus.
And as far as the menopause-- the shot that induces menopause (Lupron) is a time released drug--the injection stays in the system for 3 months-- after that all menopause symptoms are gone.
Thank you all for your support.
