I confess I just skimmed that article 'cause it was so long. But I'm not afraid of SARS or terrorism or any thing else they referred to. I couldn't even tell you what alert level we're on as a nation right now (orange maybe?).
Because I choose not to pay much attention to the media hype.
In fact, I'm totally weirded out when people are afraid of stuff. A couple of weeks ago a customer came into our store & said there was an unmarked box on the UPS drop box just outside. One of the coworkers called the police (not 9-1-1, just the regulary #) and a few minutes later 2 cops showed up. They just stood there guarding the package for nearly an hour.
During this time one of our coworkers was totally freaking out. I told him if it were a real threat, I was positive we would have been evacuated. Law enforcement people don't take anything like that lightly. It didn't help. This guy was a nervous wreck until the package was removed.
I guess you can be afraid & let that dominate your life. Not me.
