ktsnake, I think you are showing the kind of Smarties that they have in England. And yes, while I do live in a country belonging to the British Empire, when I visited Jolly Old Enlgand, I do remember that UK Smarties were more like a sugary hard candy, rather than the "chocolate kind" that we have in North America.

Where I come from (which is that foreign country known as Canada), the box looks more or less like it does on the Candy Bar Test. We have BOTH M&M's and Smarties in Canada.
I suppose the subtle differences would be that M&M's are a bit softer than Smarties (which are more "crunchy"). Also, M&M's are more 'bulbous' shaped, whereas Smarties are flatter.

Hmmm...maybe Smarties are now available in the USA?



I do know that sometimes products are sometimes named different things in USA than Canada.
For example, in the USA, Kellogg's calls this cereal "Smart Start"

and in Canada, THE EXACT SAME PRODUCT is called "Vector":
