Is it nerve, lack of respect or both?
I don't want to get into this but there's a difference in the use of words like that between friends/fraternity brothers and using them in front of complete strangers or on message boards.
Different types of language are appropriate for difference situations -- I'll talk a lot differently at the bar than I will on TV for example.
