At my university, one would think that many events are "secret" because you never see many, if any fliers posted. That is not the case though. There are some ladies (non-members) who will take the notices down. It was so bad at one point that at one of the events the members informed everyone that they were aware of who was taking the fliers down. Simply put, it's a fierce competition. As stated before, I would say be alert. There are sure to be some young ladies (fellow sisterfriends) who won't mind keeping in touch with you and sharing event information amongst one another. Networking is the key. Hope that helps.
