Found the following in ShopTalk, a daily bulletin board popular with broadcasters:

"Arnett Fired: NBC fired Peter Arnett after he told Iraqi TV that the U.S. war plans so far had failed. Arnett has accepted a new assignment with Al Jazeera where he will be embedded with himself in a undisclosed fox hole trying to evade smart bombs with his name on them.
