I've actually had someone write me from jail and it wasn't funny at all. I don't have a clue how he even got my address. All of a sudden, I started getting letters from him telling me how much he missed me and he couldn't wait to celebrate our anniversary.
WTF?!?! He was my friend's boyfriend in the ninth grade. I never dated him or anything and all of a sudden in 1999 he started sending me letters. At first, it was kind of funny since most of it rhymed and it was corny. Then, he started talking crazy. He started saying stuff how he'd hurt any guy I had been with and that I was supposed to spend the rest of my life with him. He told me that the next letter would be the proposal letter. He even drew me a diamond ring.
The craziest thing about this saga is that now he is writing one of my best friends (not the one he dated in 1991). Once again, she doesn't know how he knows where she stays, either. I have to admit that his poems are still hilarious but it's a little unsettling that he is writing about how she's supposed to be with him and how he'll take care of anyone who tries to hurt her. We've actually talked about whether she should get a restraining order against him when he gets out. I told her that for now she should just not open his letters, mark them 'Return to Sender, Addressee Unknown", and contact the jail to let them know that she is receiving unwanted letters from him. He just seems to wierd to take any chances with.
