I know some gals who drove to Oxford, Miss., on a whim...arrived about 4 a.m. and, by luck, there was a DG outside saying good night to her boyfriend who let them in and even let them crash on her floor.
But don't depend on that. It's a home, so the polite thing to do would be to call, ask if you could visit and tell the person about what time you will arrive. And then arrive when you said you would. Be sure to get the person's name, or ask them to arrange for someone to meet you. DG policy is for ALL housing to be locked at all times - safety, you know.
A young alum (below 30) told me that she and 3 other sisters took off during spring break and visited DG houses in Louisiana & Texas (including the one with a pool). But they did write or call in advance and arrange to visit and stay at the houses. That way they also found out what schools were on break the same time.
