Pin boxes are inexpensive, can easily be personalized, and sure come in handy! I decoupaged some carnations onto a pin box while I was in college and I still keep my pins there. Ballerina, an art major, bought a miniature unfinished trunk for her big sister and painted some gorgeous white carnations onto a cardinal-colored background. Michael's has a huge selection of boxes!
Another inexpensive but really useful gift--acrylic frames. Pick up a bunch of paint pens and decorate the borders with sorority symbols!
