We do a huge hayride every autumn. Susquehanna University is in a pretty rural part of PA, and one of the PMA brothers struck up a deal with a local farmer to let us have his tractor and two haybeds to haul the brothers and sisters to a spot in the fields where we have a huge bonfire, sing songs and make smores. It is the best time, ever. We can invite non-sisters, and when my big invited me before I'd made up my mind on SAI, it was one of the things that really cemented my desire to pledge.
I'd had an idea for a Chinese night for our chapter--get Chinese food in bulk, as most Chinese places will discount if you order a lot. We found this out from personal experience. But anyway, do up some Chinese food, decorate the house, put on some kung-fu movies, and have the two Chinese professors on campus and a couple of the Chinese students come and teach the sisters how to write their name in calligraphy. Not musical, per se, but loads of fun.
We do a lot of barbeques with Phi Mu Alpha--mostly midnight ones, and they're very informal, but great--especially on the reading days before finals in the spring. We had a luau the other Semptember. Didn't have a whole pig, but we barbequed in the backyard, made faux daquiris and piņa coladas, handed out leis, and a few of the boys played Jimmy Buffet tunes in the yard. We even got out the tiki torches. It was a blast.
