I work for MIT, but am a member from another chapter(UMass) . I have followed MIT hacks(pranks) for a while. and while I've seen some classics(the bridge from Boston to Cambridge is measured to this day in "SMOOTS", the measurement of a (Lambda Chi) brother rolled end to end across the bridge. This measurement is so well known that when one of brother Smoot's cousins won the NOBEL prize, he needed to deny that he was the "bridge SMOOT". The classic is when DKE at MIT managed to smuggle an eight foot weather balloon in to the Harvard Stadium and bury it uinder the turf. It was then released in the middle of the the Harvard-Yale game to the consternation of the crowd. Cop cruisers on top of building domes, confusion in the streets, mass histeria.........MIT!!!!!!

Some years before my time (but I have seen the photos) instead of Homecoming decorations a certain chapter of a well known fraternity tried something different. An 8' by 6' by 6' hole was dug in the lawn in front of the house and a full size mock up of a donkey was placed at the bottom of the excavation. A large sign was placed there proclaiming "Ass Hole". The Dean of Students went ballistic and ordered the guys to cover it uo right now. So, they backed up a pick-up truck load of corn, covered the Ass, and changed the sign. The Dean damn near had a stroke and ordered them to get that damned hole covered. So, they spread a load of manure over the corn and changed the sign. Chapter suspended for one semester, people still talk about it years later.

one of the things I love about Carolina-Clemson week every year is hearing about this story. I have talked to a few people who were at the game, including one of the Sigma Nu's that participated in the prank, and I honestly think that this is the best prank EVER...I dont think anyone will ever be able to top it.
