WILLIAMS PARENTS DIVORCE: Oracene and Richard Williams split.
(Oct. 30, 2002) *On Tuesday, the Palm Beach, Florida Circuit Court finished divorce proceedings between Mrs. Oracene Williams and Richard Williams, mother and father of famed tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams. The suit was filed as a "no fault" proceeding.
Says Mrs. Williams in a statement: "Richard and I have been separated for a while now, and I was very honest with our children that a reconciliation would not happen. They've accepted our divorce and love us, as we both love them. Richard and I will continue to work together for the good of our girls, and I truly wish him well."
Mrs. Williams, who will begin using her maiden name, Oracene Price, is Founder and CEO of the OWL Foundation, an organization based in Palm Beach and is dedicated to maximizing educational opportunities for youth who have been evaluated as slow learners and who require special attention.
