				 Please Sign this Petition..

			Subject: Amina Lawal
If there is one email you send on this year....make it this one! If you think actions like this can't make a difference - think about the effect doing nothing has.
You have probably heard about Amina Lawal, the Nigerian woman
convicted of adultery and having a child outside marriage, who has
been sentenced to death by stoning by the court.
It is particularly shocking that the judge has decided that she should
be stoned to death as soon as her eight month old daughter is weaned -
what a tragedy for her and for her baby.
Amnesty International has organized a petition which you can sign
online and which will be forwarded to the President of Nigeria - you
can sign it by clicking here:
http://www.mertonai.org/amina/
I hope that you will sign it, and pass this on to other people - it
seems the least we can do.
More news about Amina is at

Oh my God. I can't believe that is happening in 2002!
I signed the petition and will encourage others to do so as well. Thank you so much for posting this!!

Eventhough it is an unfortunate act and very strange in the year 2002, it is the law of the land there. I cannot sign the petition as I do not have a place in telling them what to do in their own country.

I signed the petition. I think we need to step in and let them know this is not highly looked upon-why not? other countries do it to us and in ways that are not as nice as a letter. Please keep us updated on the situation.

			Neicy81? Who's Neicy81?
PS, I am not condoning these actions by any means, but I feel as though their rules are their rules. I can sign all the petitions in the world, but either way it won't matter. All it will say is there are about 20,000 people sticking their noses into a place where it is unwelcome.

First of all, there is world wide support for this protest.
Second, I RESPECT your decision NOT to sign but dont come on here with the negativity. I posted this for SUPPORT and for people to try to make a bad situation into something positive. RESPECT my decision to try to help.

 Thank you.

I signed it but I have a question.
The heading of the letter says "End Death By Stoning" and the letter calls for the end of this cruel and inhumane punishment. It does not call for the repeal of the sentence as a whole. Can't this petition be turned around and used to change her death by stoning to something just as horrific such as death by firing squad? |

			Hey NinjiPoo,
I don't recall bringing negativity to your table, I was just stating my opinion, which is the reason Greekchat.com is on the internet. I respect your decision 100%, but it is alright for me not to agree, and you need to respect that.

SigmaChiCuy,

I believe what NinjaPoodle (please correct me if I am wrong) is saying that this thread was created to drum up support for the petition....not to debate it.
