Pictures can help the women in the houses recognize you when you are going thru rush. This is particularly helpful at schools with large rushes. At my school, typically 800-1000 women would go thru, and each house had copies of her application, photo, recs, resume which we'd study, like flashcards so that we'd know who was who coming thru. It helped conversations get started and put us more at ease.
