One thing that many students are not thinking about is what happens with student loans if they take a semester or more off. While there is a grace period of 6 months once a student drops below half time, that grace period can only be used once. So if a student takes it now in the middle of their academic program, under current guidelines, they do not have one when they graduate. Payments will have to begin immediately upon graduation.

Kutztown (the borough not the college) is planning to enact an ordinance next week that no residence can have more than 10 occupants and you have to wear a mask when you are within 6 feet of anyone indoors or out. Paging shadokat- how much of the student housing is in the borough?

What the University is doing:

Yeah, we heard about the "ordinance". Problem is all the state schools are having the same problem. It's why Bloomsburg is now under all virtual classes. Sadly, when you have 18-22 year olds with lots of free time on their hands, they're going to find something to pass the time.

I get that people want their kids to have a normal college experience, but there is no normal right now. If your kid is in college, online is normal now. And if your kid went back to school, likelihood is they're getting COVID and bringing it home when they kick the kids out of dorms and housing. Bloomsburg has actually said that if you want to stay on campus in the dorms, you can do so. That's for money sake I'm sure, but it makes sense to leave your COVID riddled kid on campus and not bring them home to give you COVID.

I'll keep you updated if I hear anything else.

My son is a freshman in college and all of his classes are virtual, however he is in a dorm. He just called me freaking out because he missed one of the posted assignments for a class- it was on a tab that he didn't see. The university has said over and over that the professors are working with students if they have issues. So my son emailed the professor. Professor was sorry/not sorry. its a zero.

The kids were given no guidance on how to use the systems. Different professors are using different systems (some are canvas, some are McGraw-Hill).

I told him to chalk it up to a learning experience and he will have plenty of points he can get to make up for one zero. (and told him to feel free to email his advisor the response from the professor).

Its an odd time for sure.

I’ve got a friend whose daughter is a freshman at Grove City College in Pennsylvania. They report one positive Covid-19 case. How is that possible? One? I don’t believe it.

I totally believe it.

GCC is the crown jewel of conservative Christian colleges. They take zero federal funding so they can do whatever they want.

The one case must be the affirmative action student, ie the Democrat.

Have him email the department chair, if he feels the need. The advisor is either another professor (peer) or a professional advisor who can't really do anything. Emailing the chair bucks it up the hierarchy to someone with the responsibility to gently remind the professor of the expectations.

Signed,
A Department Chair

Thank you! I suggested that as well, but I refuse to helicopter and do it for him, so we will see what he does or doesn't do! It's a learning experience for everyone.
