Yikes!! I hope her mom writing in doesn't get back to this poor girl, although I do really like the columnist's response that she provided. I think the daughter really needs to assess if she feels absolutely zero connection to the group and its members. But with that said I think the daughter needs to talk to someone to work through some of her issues resulting from previous bullying.
I echo what you're saying Shadokat when I was in school and things didn't go as planned I didn't get the oh poor you thing from my parents. It was more along the lines of "it just didn't work, chin up and move on."
