I was impressed with last night's episode. The group dynamic between
Candace, Amanda, Mara, and Jordan is finally settling into it's own
rythym. There was a balance in depicting the pledges vs. actives.
Also it was cool to see Pauli being so up on the pledges. The way
they handled the Big Sis/Little Sis revealing was perfect (i.e. they
showed some respect for ritual).
I especially liked the way Mara hangs back and observes, then lays out
her observations about the Candace/Amanda dynamic to Jordan and
everything she said was dead-on (and in agreement with the
observations on this forum). You can see why she's a sociololgy
major.
The way Jordan and Amanda were friends who went through rush together,
then the friendship takes a turn as they both go through the process
of integrating into the pledge class and the sorority as a whole, is
exactly what happens in real life. Well done.
It took them five episodes but the show is starting to yield some good
observations about the group dynamics that take place in sororities.
I'll leave the Candace/Amanda thing at the bar for someone else to
comment on. But if MTV planted a microphone in the girls bathroom,
shame on them! (However it was obviously a smart move.)
