There was nothing straightforward or polite about the "let me google that for you" response. Except snark directed to a (likely) teenaged girl. You can google it.
A straightforward response like the one you mentioned actually would be appropriate -- even helpful -- assuming it came from someone with experience in UT recruitment.

No. She is an adult with thousands of posts on this forum, not a young college student, who is a new member, posting her first question to the forum.
I'm not placing the blame on any one member -- more so perhaps on a culture of snark where some members show off at the expense of young PNMs and are reinforced for it by others.

The lack of questions from PNMs was noticed
last summer, prior to fall recruitment. And the manner in which new forum members (PNMs) are sometimes treated was noted as a reason. There is a thread on the topic entitled "Where to go for recruitment advice:"

Excellent comment by Sciencewoman on that thread:

It has been slow around here. I know what I'd rather do...answer the recruitment questions and be nice to 18-year-olds...if I'm on here, I'm interested in reading their posts and questions (as well as referring PNMs to the helpful, stickied threads).
