Not quite what you asked, but I wouldn't send letters to local businesses; I would go with at least one other sister to talk with owner/manager in person. Be ready to tell them exactly what the event is, what charity it will benefit, how any money or supplies they give will be used to make the event more successful and what they will receive in return for sponsorship.
