The uncivil part of it comes into play probably because OM has the reputation as all things lovely and proper, while, in reality, their recruitment is "nice-to-your-face and then cut you before you're out the door." Whereas, at other schools across the country, recruitment might be conducted in a less phony manner. A lot of Southern women have enmity just below the surface, but are adept at cloaking it in graciousness.

That's the one thing I really miss about living up north. At least in PA, NY, NJ and a bunch of other northern places, you already know how someone feels about you because they don't try to cloak it in anything. Instead, people will tell you to go "....." yourself so, you are well aware of how they feel without trying to play a guessing game.
