I'm not sure if y'all remember, but Halo had applied EA to a super safety school. At one point they seemed to have lost his application and he emailed back and forth with the admissions counselor a few times and then gave up. He figured he would go to either of the schools where he had been admitted before he would go there anyway. So TODAY, April 12th- 3 full months after he should have heard about EA- he got a big envelope in the mail with a $90K 4 year scholarship. Oh yes, this is a rolling admissions school too. Yes, he applied in October. Yes, he heard back 6 months later. He has no intention of going there but I think it helped his ego a little.
Finally tally: 3-2-1
Albion College- Accepted- $90K merit over 4 years if he maintained a 3.0
Kalamazoo College- Accepted - $82K merit over 4 years if he maintains a 2.5
University of Michigan- Accepted- $1000 one time scholarship (but very nice financial aid package)
Oberlin- Waitlisted
Brown- Waitlisted
Northwestern- Rejected.
Halo was heard to say "If I get off the wait list at Oberlin we'll discuss it, but I think I'd probably go to Michigan anyway"
I think we have a favorite emerging *fingers crossed*

Though I should hate Michigan (not as much as Ohio State hates them), I want to say "congrats" to your son and hope he becomes a member of the Big Ten! University of Michigan is an incredible university. Good luck to him! Since we couldn't get him at the "better" Big Ten university , I hope we at least get to claim him as a Big Ten man!

Don't be upset at the Northwestern rejection. The university is trying to become a more national school and as a result applicants from the Midwest are at a big disadvantage. The same thing as Vanderbilt which wants to shed its image as a college for southern rich kids.

Nope, that one didn't sting. I've been told by people who have kids at the expensive college prep schools around here that it is rare for kids from Southeast Michigan to get into Northwestern because they assume they'll just go to U of M.

Haha...my HS (Florida panhandle) was basically a feeder for Vandy until they wanted to diversify geographically. Now kids who would have been shoo-ins are getting wait listed.

If Northwestern or Vanderbilt is your first choice apply Early Decision. Both of these schools want students who really want to go there rather than bitter Ivy rejects who spend four years bitching about how they were rejected by Yale.

I agree that Vandy's Northern diversification began at least 15 years ago. Quite a few young women from our area have been accepted at the school and rushed their NPC groups for about that long. Some of these women were wait-listed or rejected by the likes of Notre Dame, Saint Mary's College, and Northwestern.
