heh...for me, it depends on the ex and the circumstances in which you broke up. I have two examples...
Ex #1 and I dated for about 8 months. We broke up and didn't talk to each other for about a month or so. That gave us the time we needed to sort thigns out and whatnot. Today, five years later, he's still one of my best friends. He's actually trying to hook me up with one of his fraternity brothers.
Ex #2 is a different story. We broke up on extremely sh*tty terms, and didn't have those couple weeks of not seeing each other, because we both had leads in back to back to back plays. We had to see each other, at great length, every day for the next 4 months. We would get into insane screaming and shoving matches...
I don't know if you guys know the show Godspell, but there's this part in the show where "Jesus" is talking about reading people's feet. My ex was the guy on the floor having his foot "read." In the middle of opening night, I was holding his foot during this part, and just started twisting his ankle as hard as I could! I actually messed up his knee by doing that. I don't know what POSESSED me to do it. It's actually really funny because after that we started shoving each other ONSTAGE DURING THE SHOW!!!!! The video of that night is absolutely hilarious because there's all this singing going on and you can see my ex and me in the background shoving each other! It's like something out of Monty Python.
We can laugh about it now, but it's taken a LOOOOOONG time to get to this point...
