My ex (who is 25) was very decortation conscience. He was into his black leather couch, rod iron coffee table and matching end table...as well as this thing that stands (dunno how to describe it). He was into black and white and modern. Totally NOT be...but he had his bachelor pad and then I moved it and it still stayed that way (maybe that's why we broke up LOL). Anyways, I think she's just trying to make you appreciate a little bit of fashion/decoration style.
It's not such a BAD thing...it certainly impresses a lady when a guy does like a clean, and well put together place. Although I can see your point on the couches...I wouldn't want those for myself either. (Leather couches are very nice).
Try looking at Bombay.com...that's where my ex bought a lot of his things and they actually have some nice stuff.
