I don't know what school you are at, nor am I privy to anyone's membership selection, but IN GENERAL, a group that wants you is not going to change their mind because you have an academic conflict. Just make sure to discuss it with the rush chair, because you want them to know that you are in lab, not ditching their party because you are uninterested.
