I would think that most organizations require people who resign or are expelled to return their badges. That's the case with KD.

That's why new member agreements and contracts are a great thing. Yes, I realize that many years ago, they may not have been in place, but they are now.

How often someone is pursued to give back their badge is a different story.

One of the chapters I advised put it in their bylaws that if a member wants to quit, and claims that she "lost" her badge and therefore are unable to return it, they are charged a $200 fee that they must pay before they are allowed to sign their resignation paperwork, or the original cost of the badge, (whichever is higher) as a negative financial incentive to "lying" about losing your badge just so you can keep it. If you really lost your badge before you decided to quit, sucks to be you, you should have cared about your items a little bit more. If you're lying about losing it just so you can keep it and not return it, you'll think twice about that lie since you'll have to pay that fee again. Most ladies decide that the badge, to an organization they no longer want to be a part of, is not worth shelling out that much money again just to keep it.

And if you try to not pay, well, we'll just send you to collections once you're eligible to be suspended for financial deliquincy. Since we've implemented the policy 2 years ago.... it's not been an issue, so I guess it works.
