I'm well aware of what the meaning of "closed on Sunday" idea. I doubt there is a serious "hatred" for anyone or any company that observes those ideals. There may be hatred for blue laws that require businesses to be closed on Sundays. I did grow up in the South in a very religious family. I'm not unaware of the culture. I think there is a lot of hyperbole regarding the other side, however.
