After a few weeks, Abby had fallen into a routine. Classes were going good and she started hanging out with the guy who went to her high school a lot (they learned they were both morning people and met for breakfast every morning at 6:30am). But every time she saw a girl in Mackenzie letters, she felt like crying.

Brooke was okay. Her Brooke aunt had sent her a lot of Brooke gifts to try to get her excited about the sorority. And Brooke was offering her what she wanted from Greek Life: they made her focus on academics and held her accountable at study hours, she always had someone to eat with in the cafeteria, and there was always at least one social event each week where she could meet new people. But even though Facebook said she was making tons of friends, she still didn’t feel at home in Brooke. Actually, she found herself missing home a lot.

Her sister offered to let her come visit for a weekend and Abby took her up on the offer. She stayed with sister in the Payton sorority house and hung out with her Payton sisters. She also met her sister’s friends who were in Christy and Kelly. During the second day of her trip, she thought about transferring to her sister’s school. The school had a good program for her major (but not as good as her current school) and she knew several people there already either from high school or through her sister.

Her sister loved the idea, as well as her friends. If she dropped out of Brooke and transferred, she’d be eligible for informal recruitment at this school the following semester. Unfortunately, her sister’s sorority, Payton, would not be participating in informal recruitment. Her sister’s friend in Christy also said that since they were well above total, they couldn’t take any new members either. The friend in Kelly said they may be taking two or three girls, but they would most likely be friends of members and they wouldn’t be holding recruitment events. However, there were three sororities that pretty much always did informal (Holly, Melissa, and Jill) as well as a non-NPC sorority (Leslie). There was even a sister in Melissa who had gone to her high school. And of course, there was Brooke.

Brooke always did well in recruitment (and had cut Abby’s sister after day 1). If she initiated into Brooke, she could potentially transfer her membership as well. Abby didn’t hate the Brooke sorority. She actually enjoyed learning about Brooke during new member education and their creed was basically a fancier way to say what she had always believed. Could she be a Brooke? Could she be a Brooke at her sister’s school? The friend in Kelly quickly went through her cell phone and found the phone number to Brooke who she worked on a class project with the previous year. She texted her and asked if she could bring her Brooke friend from another school by to check out the house and meet some sisters. The sister said yes, so they walked over to the Brooke house.

Abby was shocked how pretty the house actually was. She met the sister the Kelly had texted and got a tour of the house. She met several Brooke sisters got a long with them very well. When one of them asked her if she’d like to stay for dinner, she said yes. The food was pretty good and she had so much fun with the Brooke sisters. After dinner she stayed for a while and chatted with a few sisters and helped them get ready for a night out. Sometime during that afternoon/evening she started to feel the sisterhood bond with the Brooke sisters that she had been missing. The only problem was that this was not the Brooke chapter she was a new member of.

The next day, Abby returned to her campus. She knew she didn’t have much time to decide what she wanted to do. Initiation was only a few weeks away. And if she wanted to transfer, she’d need to apply soon. She had a lot of thinking to do.
