Such an amazing actor with a miles-long list of characters. Just when I thought I had him pigeonholed with military or tough guy roles, I saw A Catered Affair with him in a role as a father (to a young Debbie Reynolds), husband (to Bette Davis), and taxi driver. And he was so touching in ThePoseidon Adventure.
A great American icon--gone but certainly never to be forgotten!
