				Prayers for Aimee Copeland

I don't know how national this story has gone, but I noticed that no one has posted it here.
A UGA Delta Gamma alumna, Aimee Copeland, is in critical condition due to a flesh-eating bacteria which has ravaged her body over the past few weeks. She lost a leg early on and on Friday was told she would lose her hands and the other foot.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/...84H10320120518
The article does a good job of giving the basics of the situation.

Please keep Aimee in your prayers!

We will pray. We almost lost a daughter to that years ago; the doctors at Emory said that it was possibly due to a mosquito bite and that we all have staph on our skin 24/7 and all it takes is the tiniest of holes and you can be dead in 24 hours. Since then, we've heard of several stories of people who almost died due to necrotizing fasciitis and others who did die, all due to "minor" wounds.

I read earlier today that she is in critical condition and that her parents asked that the media respect their privacy.
She and her family are in my thoughts.

Oh my. I have been following this story and my heart was breaking for this young woman as well as another one who contracted the infection at a hospital hours after giving birth to twins.
This bacteria is just brutal. What a fighter this girl is.

Aimee's father posted yesterday that she is TALKING! Not just mouthing words, but actually speaking. So exciting!

She's a true miracle. Her initial chances of survival were "slim to none." What an amazing young woman she is!
My husband almost died of this 12 years ago. The point of entry was his leg, but they never determined what opened him up to it. He had been in the woods just days prior and a tick or spider bite was always suspect, but never confirmed. Like Aimee, he went to an E.R. here in the Atlanta area, but was initially sent home with pain meds and antibiotics. Within days, he was so sick they only gave him about a 40 percent chance of survival before going into emergency surgery. He spent a month in the hospital undergoing skin graphs and I can't even remember how many operations -- at least four.

He ended up making a full recovery, but man -- that is one brutal infection.

Just saw on the Atlanta news that Aimee's dad has challenged UGA against his school S. Carolina to see who can donate the most blood. Go Gamecocks!
It is for such a great cause. Her story is truly inspirational. Get out there and donate no matter if your a Dawg or a Gamecock!

I've been following Aimee's story as well. Just goes to show you that life can change on us in a split second. I can't believe she's progressed as much as she has. Absolutely an amazing person and a true fighter. "Bend a knee, for Aimee C."

Aimee was released from the hospital today! She will still be in need of our prayers/thoughts as she begins rehab... her dad says she plans to be able to walk to get her degree from graduate school. Yes, walk. She is so inspiring!http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504763_1...ing-infection/

CNN has a photo story showing Aimee leaving the hospital. If you look closely, she has a home-made looking Hannah doll with her the entire time! It just made me smile to know her sisters were probably behind it. I hope she continues on her amazing recovery!

She was on Katie Couric's new show today! She is a really amazing, inspiring and special person.
A Chevy dealer in Atlanta and Katie got together and gave Aimee a van - they will have it specially retrofitted for her to be able to drive it!
