The least these stupid networks can do is with the newbie shows tell them "hey you don't know if you will be renewed, make sure that all the big questions get answered by the end of the season and just leave little minor questions that could continue on if you are renewed for season 2". You are left with so many unanswered questions and then find out AFTER the "season" finale that "oh by the way the show isn't being renewed".
Plus, I wish networks gave shows a chance. I'm sorry most shows take more than one season to really find their footing and to gain an audience. Why can't you give shows a chance? It just sucks trying to "get involved" in a tv show and then it being cancelled.
Then the shows get replaced with stupid bs reality tv shows.

I agree with everything you’ve said!

To use GCB as an example, by the time the season finale aired, the decision had been made. But let’s say even when they were filming the episode, it was still up in the air. Maybe they could have filmed 2 different endings- one to be used as a cliffhanger in case there would be a season 2, and the other that would wrap up the various plotlines, even if it was in a voiceover/scene-montage style, sort of like the end of Desperate Housewives (“Carlene never did build her Condos for Christian Living, but she did {blah blah blah}” Or whatever).
