Hilarious! Which do you get most? People asking for a cigarette or people asking for a square? I swear if I ever heard anyone ask someone that, I know I'd laugh really hard. They'd probably look at me like...

I heard "square" more in college. Now, it's usually "do you mind if I bum a smoke?"

And why do people have to say "can I "bum" a smoke?" I've heard people say that to others. Why can't they just say "can I have a cigarette?" Some of the slang words people use are just too funny.

My current biggest peave is till. The abbreviation for until is 'til. Till is what you do in a field to turn over soil. Can my 10th grade teacher be the only person in the world to have taught this? She was adamant about that, as well as literal (don't use it if it's not LITERAL) and unique. Things can't be somewhat or even very unique. It either is or is not unique and it better be really seriously different than anything else in the world if you're going to call it unique. If in doubt, don't use it!

Just got off the phone with someone and the conversation reminded me of this thread. She uses the word "mega" instead of "many" or "bad". As in, "mega people are without power," or "I have a mega headache, mega."
She's the type who discovers a slang word about ten years after it's fallen out of popular use, and uses it nonstop. She just started using the phrase "TMI" a few months ago, and she's really enthusiastic when she says it - "TMI! TMI!! Too much TMI!"

"Abbreves" make my skin crawl. "Totes presh, totes adorbs!" (my roommate says both of those often and I tell her I'm going to totes vom.) I do, however, love the phrase "uber cray cray"
I also can't stand all of the different forms of "bro" when used seriously in conversation. Like brochacho, broseph, brrraaaa etc.

Um. My coworker says Um like 999 times in every conversation. Sometimes it's Um, only to be followed by Um again. Makes us sound SO professional! We don't have offices or cubes so here I am, sitting in her line of vision, when she is on the phone Ummmmming away! It drives me nuts! This guy who used to work in our office did an "Um" tally one day, I forget the actual number but it was ridiculous (and yes, I still type that out...ridic is just, well- ridiculous!)

All of my friends like to say "foreal". First of all, it would be spelled "for real". Second, is it "foreal" as opposed to "fofake"?

The antonym of for real real is for play play. That is unlikely to be on the verbal portion of the SAT.

			I have two major ones:

-When did invitations become invites? I will admit that we had a bit of a joke about women we would invite back to parties. The ones we really wanted got invitations, the ones who were definitely B list got invites. Seeing invites on when looking for invitations made me think twice about which place I eventually used. Invites = terribly low class to me.

and

-"All the trimmings" Commercials asking for donations to sundry homeless shelters etc, so that the residents can have turkey with all the trimmings bring out a violent streak in me. Who decorates a turkey? Does that mean that there are ornaments in the cavity? Twinkle lights on the legs? Ugh. And yes, I sent some money to two different ones today, but with the caveat that the phrase "all the trimmings" is shorthand for "we don't give a rat's a$$ what these people are going to be served with their turkey. Yeah, that's how much it upsets me.
