Why not call them pledges? "New members" makes it sound like they're already initiated. And also, why is it not PC to call it Rush anymore? "Recruitment" sounds like we're in the military. These are questions that have been asked for over a decade already.
I initiated right around the time of this transition. Rush became Recruitment. Rushee became PNM. Pledge became New Member. Frat Ed was now Member Development.
People will continue to call it whatever the hell they want to call it. But like Titchou said, NPC voted to change the terminology. I have no problem with using old vs. new but when working with collegians I feel like it's my responsibility to follow what the NPC says.
