What just happened?

So while I have been sharing about my niece's rush, I do have other girls I wrote recs for and know very well. So I just had the craziest thing happen with a pnm that suicided.

PNM loves house A, B,C,D. She goes to all their parties, but loses A,B and C when the invites for pref night come. She goes to D, E, and F but suicided D last night.
So she's waiting for the call that she lost D or planning to go to Bid Day pick up.
She gets a call, she didn't match and did not get house D, but House A who she did not pref (because she was cut) has extended her a bid.
Here is where I'm confused...House A is a highly selective house that cut drastically throughout rush. Yes, she would love to be in house A, she loved them from the beginning. What happened? Was this where RFM made some of the houses cut too drastically and they didn't make quota? I've never seen this happen before and not with this particular house. My pnm is thrilled and really confused, as am I, so that is why she knows as she had to go to the office and fill something out.

Yes.

It's not necessarily that they cut too drastically - they cut based on their retention rates from previous years. It's just that the girls they kept chose another group. Unfortunately RFM does not come with the Carnac Mind Reading Turban.

Thanks so much! I cannot wait to talk with my niece, her best friend and the other girls. Now that rush is over, I can tell you my niece loved her pref night, but she said all the pnms at her party were raving about the party too so she was happy she loved all 3 so she didn't have to stress out too much!

Your girl was picked up in a snap bid. Seems weird that this is now the 2nd big school that seems to have chapters not making quota using RFM. Interesting.

House A may be a very strong recruiting house. RFM is targeting a quota of say 50 so their releases all week reflect that number along with their statistical information from the last 3 years. RFM then ups quota say even 10 to 60 OR Chapter has a bad preference, but doesn't end up matching as many women and viola no quota for a strong Chapter. Weird, but true. I just lived it.

I know, never in the years I was in school or writing recs have I ever heard a story like this. She was a double legacy to the house that cut her before pref party and then extended her a bid today.

We were always encouraged at U of I to turn in a snap list. Because everyone invited to pref is on your bid list somewhere, the snap list is generally made up of women invited to 2nd invitational but not pref.
