My parents lived in a small apartment in downtown Dallas for 4 years (I was born there- Dallas that is - not the apartment), long before AC was common. They moved there in early August. They had one small ceiling fan. My mom still remembers my dad getting up all hours of the night to stick his head in the refridgerator. Not terribly helpful but better than his other solution - sprinkling water on the sheets.
AC blasting all night = my drug. My apartment is smaller than my previous one, so even with the constant AC, my bill is never over $40 a month. If that changes, I'll have to use the freezer method

I have conflicting opinions on the heat wave. I really hate being cold and have always loved being outside in the heat. I grew up without air conditioning and don't mind being warm at all. (Though I will say that heat index of 120 requires a/c.)

But for whatever reason, I do a complete 180 and turn into a wilting flower when I have to run in the heat -- and I run a LOT. Usually 70-80 miles a week. I'm still getting my runs in, though slower, but what wouldn't I give for 60 degrees during that daily two-hour time window.
